Congratulations to New York Times columnist Gail Collins for shining a big light on singlism, a term coined by Dr. Bella DePaulo (an AtMP member) to describe the social stigma and legal discrimination facing single people, including Homeland Security Secretary-designate Janet Napolitano. Commenting on the Times column, AtMP executive director Nicky Grist concludes "It is time to recognize that being single is not just a phase, and singlism is not a joke."

Happy National Family Week! President Bush salutes the "parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and other family members" who shape each child. We invite him and President-elect Obama to understand that real families go beyond blood and marriage, embracing all the relationships that enrich each person's lifelong journey. Government definitions of family have huge impact. That's why so many experts signed on to AtMP's Affirmation of Family Diversity.

This was an exciting election, and we look forward to the promise of change.  But we're beyond disappointed that voters in Arizona, Arkansas, California and Florida chose discrimination over fairness and respect for all relationships.  Please join the protest!  Wear a Boycott Marriage t-shirt, post the Boycott badge on your webpage, and tell your friends about it.  For more about the marriage boycott, click here.
