The Alternatives to Marriage Project seeks strategic thinkers and hands-on actors to lead the only national organization fighting marital status discrimination into its second decade of growth and impact.

If you believe no one should have to get married to get health insurance, that couples aren't inherently better than singles, that everyone should have the right to marry but marital status shouldn't affect access to jobs, housing, tax rates or health care, then you're a member of the Alternatives to Marriage Project!

Current Board Members:

  Michele Hirsch
Meaghan Lamarre, Chair
Kevin Maillard
Gordon Morris
Ann Schranz
Alissa Wise

Members of the Board of Directors are:

* passionate about AtMP's mission;
* ready to brainstorm with other committed members, contribute and cooperatively discuss new ideas, serve on Board subcommittees, and work on projects integral to AtMP's continued growth and success;
* able to participate via email and telephone, as well as in-person;
enthusiastic about our "give and get" policy: willing to make a personal financial contribution to AtMP at a level that is meaningful to you, and willing to raise additional funds for AtMP from your personal contacts;
* any gender, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, and family form. Because AtMP's constituency is extremely diverse, board diversity is important to AtMP. Past and present board members have been people of all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, experience levels, and relationship/marital statuses married and unmarried, single and partnered.

Board meetings are held four times a year by conference call and twice a year in person, with times and locations based on what is convenient for the majority of members. Most board and committee meetings take place on weekends and weekday evenings.

If you're intrigued about joining the Board of Directors, please contact us! We'll send you an electronic "background packet" and an invitation to participate in a Board Leadership Webinar (upcoming dates to be announced).  If your schedule doesn't match the upcoming webinar dates, we'll arrange a time to talk with you by phone. Making the right match is important to us and we take every board application seriously; we want you to be fully informed before you apply.

If you're ready to apply, please click here for the application form.
