Are you passionate about supporting family diversity and fighting discrimination against unmarried people? Would you like to join like-minded activists in charting the future of the Alternatives to Marriage Project, and ensuring its success? AtMP is accepting applications from prospective new board members on an ongoing basis and welcomes interested candidates to fill out our application form.

We are seeking board members who:

  • are supportive of and passionate about AtMP's mission.
  • are willing to be "worker bees" by volunteering on AtMP-related projects on an ongoing basis and being active committee members.
  • are willing to make a personal financial contribution to AtMP at a level that is meaningful to them.
  • are willing to help fundraise for AtMP.
  • are able to be involved in discussion and decision-making online and by telephone, as well as at board meetings. Board meetings are held three times a year by telephone conference call and three times a year in person, often in New York City (this varies based on where is convenient for the largest number of board members). Most board and committee meetings take place on weekends and weekday evenings. AtMP is actively exploring ways to make it easier for board members who do not live on the East Coast to take part in board meetings. If you'd like to apply but are concerned about being able to make it to faraway meetings, get in touch so we can talk about options!
  • are any gender, age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, and family form. Because AtMP's constituency is extremely diverse, board diversity is important to AtMP.

Our expectation is that board members will participate in all meetings (with reasonable exceptions), ideally in person but by telephone if that is not possible.

Board members are elected for a two year term.

Rewards of Serving on the Board

You will be playing a direct role in creating a world where family diversity is recognized and valued. You will have the satisfaction of working on behalf of a cause you believe in.

You will be part of something that will continue to grow, attract more interest, and make a difference.

You will get to know other wonderful people who have a commitment to this issue.

Your name will be included in our annual report, announced in the Alternatives to Marriage update, and included in other materials.

To apply, copy and paste the application below into an email or Word document, and send it to us (email using this form to request the email address to send your application to -- sorry, we have taken all email addresses off this site for spam reduction). Applications are reviewed by committee on approximately a quarterly basis -- thank you for your patience!
