Speak Out
Speakers' Bureau

You might have noticed that many news articles start something like this: Phillipe and Maria have a loving home and healthy kids, but no marriage certificate...  Did you know that many of the individuals and families appearing in news stories are actually AtMP members?

Hundreds of AtMP members have shared their experiences with journalists working on stories about living single, living together, etc.  Real life stories are vital to educating the public about unmarried people. It's important to present a diversity of experiences: people who are single and in relationships; those who hope to marry someday and those who never will; people of all ages, races, sexual orientations, and especially geographic locations.

Click here if you would consider talking to the media about your experience (you can always decide on a case-by-case basis).

Letters to Editors Brigade

Educating the public through the media often requires educating the media itself.  Sometimes journalists or editors need reminders to stop using negative and inaccurate stereotypes about unmarried people (for example, "living in sin" or "lonely singles").  Sometimes they need congratulations for doing a great job.  Sometimes they need to know that an issue is important to their readers.  Letters to Editors should be short and personal - we offer more guidelines here

We encourage you to write often, and send us a copy of your letter (especially if it gets published).  Editors really take notice when they receive letters from several people about the same topic.  If you'd like to receive alerts and talking points about letters we're writing, please check the box for "I want to join AtMP's Letters to Editors Brigade" on our Sign Up Form.

Grassroots Actions

More decision-makers need to hear that it's just not OK to treat people differently based on their maritalstatus or their type of relationship. Check out members' recent actions, and join our mailing list to receive action alerts as they happen.
