WHAT YOU CAN DO

In California:

Everywhere else:

This year, AtMP is celebrating "USA Week" in California with fun, enlightening and engaging events in Venice (Los Angeles), the Castro (San Francisco), and Berkeley. If you'd like to attend, please call 718-788-1911 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to request the details.

AtMP members in California have asked politicians to issue proclamations in honor of Unmarried and Single Americans Week. Join the movement! Send your request today!

Around the country, journalists who cover "USA Week" will be looking for a local angle. Are you ready to tell the world about your single or unmarried experiences? Sign up as an unmarried spokesperson! Not sure? Read more here.

The U.S. Census Bureau recognizes "USA Week" each year by publishing new facts about unmarried people in the USA.

The Census estimates that 92 million adults in the United States are unmarried and that over half of the nation's households are headed by unmarried people, as are a majority of households in 24 states and over 300 American cities.

Unmarried and single people include all who have never married, are no longer married, and aren't able to marry legally. Unmarried Americans are diverse: 29% live alone, 12% are raising children, and 14% are senior citizens. Unmarried men and women make significant contributions to the well being and prosperity of their communities -- as workers, consumers, parents, volunteers, taxpayers and voters.

More about being an unmarried spokesperson:

AtMP maintains a database of unmarried people who are willing to talk about their lives with journalists who are working on articles or news pieces about marriage, cohabitation, and related topics. We think these real life stories are an important part of educating the public about unmarried relationships. We need a diversity of people willing to share their experiences: people who are single and in relationships; those who hope to marry someday and those who never will; people of all ages, races, sexual orientations, and geographical locations. If you would be willing to consider talking to the media about your experience (you can always decide on a case-by-case basis), please email us with your city and state (very important), phone number, and basic information about your situation that we can share with an interested reporter.
